Welcome to our Basic Patient Care Training Course
This course was created for anyone interested in becoming a Hospice Volunteer, family caregiver or who wishes to start a business as a Caregiver.
We offer Three levels of Hospice Training – Feel free to take one or all of them
- Hospice Volunteering
- Basic Patient Care for Families and Caregivers
- Hospice and Palliative Care for Nurses and Aides
Basic Patient Care and Hospice and Palliative Care for Nurses and Aides will be required of all Volunteers, even though the Nurses will be responsible for our Hospice patient’s physical needs. It is important for our Volunteers to be able to recognize issues and report any needs to the Attending Nurse and assist, if necessary.
Bilingual
Our Courses have been created to be bilingual.
- You can change the language for the entire site with the link in the top right of the site header.
- The videos are available mostly on Youtube. You can change the sub-titles by clicking the “Settings” tab on the video, then “Sub-titles” and looking for “Auto-Generated or Auto-Translate”, then choose your preferred language.
- Some documents have been Google Translated into Spanish.
Vilca Hospice Team Group
Please join our Vilca Hospice Team Group as soon as possible, if you haven’t already. This is a private Group just for our Hospice Team, including those in training. This is where our Vilca Hospice Team will communicate. It is important for our Team to frequently check our Team Discussion, as things can change quickly in this field and people will be counting on us. Be sure to “Subscribe” to the Discussion forum so you will receive notifications.

- Find out when our next In-Person Trainings are scheduled.

In-Person Training
When you have completed the On-line Courses, you will qualify to attend one of our In-person Trainings. You will be notified of the Training dates on our Vilca Hospice Team “Group” page. At least one In-person Training is required to be a “Sitter”.
Certificate of Completion
When you have completed the 3 On Line Courses and the In Person Training, you will be able to print out a frameable Certificate of Completion.
