We have created a cozy, comfortable, home-like atmosphere in our Suite

* Located in a private, gated, secure home on the Southern edge of town, Vilcabamba, Ecuador
* Nestled among fruit trees, flowers and gardens

Non-Denominational Philosophy

We believe everyone has the right to die with dignity and choice, as pain-free as possible, with company, if desired

* Our staff will attempt to follow your end-of-life wishes and any Spiritual rituals you may desire
* Our focus is on relieving pain, while allowing the most consciousness
* Our Volunteers and Nurses are trained in various techniques to assist you in a gentle passing


Medical and Palliative Care

Our English speaking, trained Nursing staff will meticulously care for your physical needs 24/7
Our English speaking, Hospice experienced Physician, Dr. Ashraf Saber, will visit as needed

* Our Physician is on-call for any medication requirements or emergencies
* Your own physician is welcome to treat you, if you wish


Hospice Volunteers

Our English Speaking Hospice Volunteers will be with you on your journey to care for your emotional, mental, spiritual and practical needs.

* They will talk to you, listen to you or just sit quietly with you
* They can arrange for any tech communication you might desire
* They are open to helping you resolve any unfinished business within their power
* They are open to helping you fulfill any last wishes, within their power
* Many of our Volunteers are trained in various "energy" modalities, hypnosis and other alternative Palliative Care options
* Our Volunteers are Google Translate proficient and speak English

Technology

The Suite is equipped with internet, computer, headphones and speaker

* We have an interesting, carefully chosen playlist to offer or your choice
* Our Volunteers can set up Zoom, Skype, Signal or Whatsapp communications for you
* They can arrange digital, Family Meetings or reconciliation communications

"Living" Celebration of Life

Want to hear what your loved ones will say at your Celebration of Life?

* We can arrange a Zoom "Living" Celebration of Life for you
* We can help you invite your family and loved to report to our Zoom Room at an appointed time
* Anyone can share their sentiments
* You can say Good-Bye

Visitors

* Family and friends are always welcome in the Hospice Suite, as long as you want visitors and we are notified in advance of their arrival. Directions and instructions will be emailed.

Criteria & Procedure for Occupying the Hospice Suite

Terminal Diagnosis with a few days to live

* A Physician has determined your condition is critical - "Actively Dying Stage"
* A Patient Assessment has been performed by a Hospice Coordinator and/or Physician

Assessment

* Download, complete and save the Patient Assessment form If you are unable to do so, assistance is available
* Email the completed form to: Admit@VilcaHospice.com
* You will be contacted within 12 hours to arrange an in-person or on-line Assessment

NOTE: If you are unable to do this - Please Call +593 99 405 9437

* You (or your Medical Power of Attorney) agree that you choose "Comfort Not Cure" care now
* You understand no life-prolonging, medical measures will be taken
* You understand you will choose a no food or water state at this point
* Everything within our power will be done to assure you are kept pain-free and comfortable
* We agree to follow your Last Wishes, as documented, to the best of our ability
* We will strive to keep you out of pain and as conscious as possible, if that is your wish
* Volunteers and Nurses will be with you every step of the way

Physician Assessment

* Our Hospice Physician, Dr. Ashraf Saber, will need to visit you in person prior to admittance to do an assessment, unless he is already your primary physician and is familiar with your condition.

Documents Required for Admittance

* Patient Assessment
* Important Information Worksheet
* Medical Power of Attorney
* Cremation Authorization document
* Original Passport or Cedula
* Signed Comfort Not Cure Agreement
* Cremation/Burial Arrangements: Either IESS information or Cash (approximately $1,000)

Note: If the required legal documents do not exist, Attorney Yadira Alarcon can assist you and even bring a Notary to your bedside, if necessary. (PLEASE plan ahead to save us all the stress and additional expense.)

Transportation to the Suite

* Jose Abad, English Speaker, can assist in transporting you to the Suite in his taxi.
* Jose can arrange for an ambulance to come from Loja, for a fee, if needed.

NOTE: Please use Jose Abad for all transportation to the Suite. He has special security access.

Cremation Payment

* Cash - $780 (providing all the required documents are available when your body is picked up)
Fee includes Jose Abad, our Mortuary Facilitator, translating, handling all the details and returning the ashes to Vilcabamba

* IESS will pay the funeral home directly for their current participants, conditions apply

* CACPE offers a $1,000 Mortuary Benefit to it's members, conditions apply. Payable to a family member or Executor (if noted in your Will) and claimed within 60 days of the death

Suite Payment

* The Hospice Suite is offered on a Donation basis. Suggested donation $300 per 24 hours. Barter considered
* Medications and doctor visits extra (Doctor visits, as needed, $30 each)
* Your estate can be billed, if you are the primary account holder of an account at CACPE or if Yadira Alarcon is your Executor
